Perhaps when you first came to yoga, you went through a spell of great enthusiasm - a yoga honeymoon. During this time, not even the most disinterested of all your friends could avoid hearing about your improved energy, strength, flexibility, and overall sense of well-being. Maybe you even hazarded a demonstration of bakasana (crow pose) in the middle of your company picnic.

But then something shifted. You got too busy. Your hamstrings were no longer lengthening with the same rapidity. You got up into headstand and decided there was nothing left to accomplish. The honeymoon ended and maybe your time on your yoga mat started to dwindle.

Ironically, the times when we feel least inspired to practice are often the times we need practice the most. Why? Because the right yoga practice should be enlivening and empowering all aspects of your life, both on and off the mat. Chances are, if you are feeling a little apathetic about your yoga practice, you are also feeling apathetic about other parts of your day. And if that is the case, renewing your commitment to your practice is precisely what is needed to lift you out of your funk!

So, what to do if your yoga flame needs rekindling? In my experience, the best way to ignite your yoga practice is to spend time with your teacher. I just returned from a 40-hour master training with my beloved teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker. I have gained a new wealth of knowledge and deepened my passion for practicing and teaching yoga, and I would like nothing more than to share this treasure with you! Now is a great time to be attending class or benefiting from some private instruction! As Sri Dhyanyogi once said, "This house is on fire, loot all you can!"

All my love,

Molly

April Focus: Breathe!

We all know that the breath is integral to any yoga practice, and if you've been to my class you've already taken a big step towards refining and deepening your breath. Dating back to around the third century A.D., the Yoga Sutras are a concise, enigmatic treatise on the practice of yoga. You may be surprised to learn that, out of 196 sutras (or verses), only 3 were devoted to yoga asana (postures)! However, each of these sutras contains a vast knowledge about the intention and practice of asana. This month, I invite you to join me as we learn to embody these ancient teachings!

New Meditative Vinyasa Class!

Dear Yogis -

I am excited to announce that I will be teaching a new Meditative Vinyasa class beginning this Thursday, Jan 15!

When: Thursdays, 7-8:30 pm
Where: EastWest Yoga (in Pacific Beach)
